CFM and CIC nanoGUNE support the “Zientzia Azoka” of Elhuyar

CIC nanoGUNE and CFM, will collaborate with Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka, with the aim of promoting science and technology among young people.

  • Thanks to this agreement, it will help in the development of the Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka, which will take place on 9 May 2020 in Bilbao.
  • The winners of Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka will enjoy a two-day stay in the nanoGUNE and CFM centres, getting to know closely the researchers and the research work they carry out.

Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka is a fair of projects developed by young people; an opportunity to get to know scientific research and technological development from within.

With the new course, nanoGUNE, the cooperative research centre and the Materials Physics Centre (CFM, CSIC mixed centre and UPV/EHU) have committed to actively participate in the initiative. The two research centres consider the Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka a strategic project, to awaken scientific and technological vocations among young people, foster the scientific culture of society and disseminate local and current science. In this way, for the initiative to have a significant scope, the signatory entities consider the collaboration between agents of the scientific and technological network of the Basque Country to be very important.
In this way, the director of nanoGUNE, Txema Pitarke, the director of the Centre for Physics of Materials (CFM, a mixed centre between CSIC and UPV/EHU), Daniel Sánchez Portal and the general director of Elhuyar, Jon Abril Olaetxea have signed a collaboration agreement.

The general director of Elhuyar explained that “from Euskera, generating technology and knowledge and disseminating science, we want to build an active and egalitarian society, in which we want to have a positive impact on the future of young people”. To this end, he stressed the need for collaboration with the agents of the Basque Scientific System in order to “offer real references to young people”. For this reason, he expressed his satisfaction with the two new agreements that have been signed within the framework of the Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka.

The nanoGUNE research centre has been carrying out cutting-edge research and active dissemination work for years. On this occasion, Txema Pitarke explained that encouraging STEM vocations among young people is fundamental.
Also from the Materials Physics Centre, Daniel Sánchez Portal has given special importance to the show of commitment of the leading scientific and technological centres to them, and above all the young women, and has added that the doors of the research centre are open.

The objectives of nanoGUNE, CFM and the Elhuyar Foundation coincide, and the collaboration and coordination between different institutions will make the most of the strong points, joining forces.

ELHUYAR ZIENTZIA AZOKA

Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka started in October, with the beginning of the course and will end with a big fair in spring. At the fair, young people will show their projects and research work to the general public in an open and accessible space.
Thanks to the signing of this agreement, nanoGUNE and CFM will collaborate during the previous acts and events of the Zientzia Azoka, as well as in person, in the celebration of this in Bilbao next May 9, 2020.
Likewise, through this agreement, nanoGUNE and CFM agree to welcome both winning groups of the Zientzia Azoka. During the two-day stay, the young people will get to know the work carried out by nanoGUNE and CFM, and will accompany the research staff in the research they are currently carrying out. On the other hand, an expert from each centre will participate in the selection meetings of the best works of Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka.
