CFM Receives ASPIRA-MaX Sagrario Martínez Carrera Distinction to Boost Scientific Excellence

Published: February 26, 2025

The Materials Physics Center (CFM, CSIC-UPV) has been recognized by the National Research Council (CSIC) with the ASPIRA-MaX Sagrario Martínez Carrera distinction in its latest call. This recognition, endowed with 300,000 euros, supports the implementation of CFM’s scientific project and excellence plan, reinforcing its leadership in materials physics and aligning with strategic initiatives such as the IKUR strategy and Basque Q.

Celia Rogero, Director of CFM

This distinction highlights our commitment to scientific excellence and innovation. “The ASPIRA-MaX funds will strengthen key areas of our research, fostering synergies and promoting collaborations that drive technological development and sustainability” states Celia Rogero, director of CFM.

The funding will contribute to consolidating laboratory equipment, recruiting specialized personnel, and implementing actions that promote internationalization, knowledge transfer, and scientific outreach. The center’s strategic focus on electron-, photon-, and neutron-matter interactions will be essential in advancing quantum technologies and sustainable materials, bridging fundamental science and practical applications. Our goal is to foster closer ties with industry and develop technologies that contribute to a more sustainable future.

In this call, 30 CSIC centers have been awarded the ASPIRA-MaX distinction, highlighting their potential to lead transformative research and strengthen scientific leadership at national and international levels.

In June, CFM received the Aspira-MaX Josefa Barba Seal of Excellence from CSIC for passing the first phase of the MaX Project that has now allowed for this new recognition.
