The CFM at the CSIC’s Cicero itinerary conferences
On this occasion, the Cicero Itinerary brought CSIC advances in quantum technologies closer to society, with the participation of CFM researcher Gabriel Molina Terriza, among other experts.
On 23 April the CSIC held a new meeting with companies, public administrations and the media to raise awareness of research in this field. The conference ‘Cicero Itineraries: Challenges and opportunities in the quantum world’ was designed to bring society closer to the institution’s work in this field, which opens up the possibility of capturing, communicating and processing information using the quantum nature of matter and light.
Specifically, CSIC research staff presented, in a debate held in the Converge space, the CSIC’s open innovation hub, the advances in quantum technologies that, thanks to four decades of fundamental research, offer promising advantages in areas such as communications, security and computing.
During the event, the president of the CSIC, Eloísa del Pino, highlighted the institution’s commitment to promoting quantum research, pointing out that ‘21 of the Council’s centres are doing science in this field’.
Advances and applications in quantum technologies
At the conference, several researchers in the area presented their work, including the researcher at the Centre for Materials Physics (CFM, CSIC – UPV / EHU) Gabriel Molina, who studies the physics of the interactions of quantum light and matter at the nanoscale. In his presentation he presented the advances being developed in his quantum nanophotonics laboratory at the CFM.
The CSIC has also produced videos showing the work being carried out by the council’s researchers in quantum technologies.
The event counted with the intervention of the director of ITEFI-CSIC, Margarita González; and with the participation of ITEFI-CSIC researcher Verónica Fernández and IFF-CSIC researcher Juan José García Ripoll as moderators of the debate.
Cicero Itineraries
The Cicerón Programme, launched in 2023, consists of a series of thematic conferences in which representatives of companies, public administrations, the third sector and the media are invited to learn first-hand about the work of their teams in solving social challenges.
In each edition of the programme, coordinated by the Vice-Presidency for Innovation and Transfer, specific topics of interest have been selected, such as the growing resistance of bacteria to antibiotics, sustainability and ethics in the digital era, healthy eating, the generation of green energy and childhood.
