CFM joins the Pint of Science festival, which will fill Donostia’s bars with science on May 18, 19, and 20

- The free science festival in pubs is celebrating its eleventh edition in 114 cities, and San Sebastian will host more than 60 researchers
- Pint of Science will take place at Mala Gissona, Bidassoa Taproom, Duit Le Bukowski and Lobo Centro (San Sebastian), as well as Buenetxea (Lasarte-Oria, 18th only), Kantina Lekuona (Errenteria, 19th only) and at the GOe-Gastronomy Open Ecosystem (San Sebastian, 20th only) at 7.00 pm
- San Sebastian hosts the second-highest number of talks in the country and is the city with the most talks per capita, reflecting the region’s strong research capacity
Pint of Science is back for its eleventh edition. For another year, CFM joins the institutions sponsoring this unique event. In addition to its sponsorship, the center is actively involved in local coordination—led by CFM researcher Ivan Sasselli—and is contributing talks by five of its researchers.
Can a board game bring you closer to innovation in the field of polymers? Is it possible to hack the nervous system? What secrets do the names of our places hold? These and many other equally intriguing questions feature in the titles of the scientific talks scheduled for May 18, 19, and 20 in Donostia, as part of the world’s largest free science outreach event.
At this festival, researchers from all disciplines bring their work to the public in an unusual setting for science: bars, transforming these everyday spaces into meeting points between knowledge and curiosity.
Researchers from the CFM will take centre stage in Monday’s talks:
The science that sees the unseen (Mala Gissona, San Sebastián. 7.00 pm – 9.00 pm).
- “How AI is reinventing matter”, with María Camarasa Gómez
- “Seeing the invisible: neutrons never lie”, with Armando Maestro Martín.
- “Walking through walls without being Casper at -273°C”, with David Caldevilla Asenjo
Science that goes beyond the surface (Bar Buenetxea, Lasarte-Oria. 7.00 pm – 9.00 pm).
- “The power of light for quantum technologies”, with Gabriel Molina Terriza
- “Neutrons to see what light cannot”, with Paula Malo de Molina
The talks will be in Spanish.
San Sebastián / Donostia is the second city in the country with the most presentations, with a total of 54 scientific talks, which will offer a glimpse into the scientific work being carried out in our city, covering topics such as nanomedicine, artificial intelligence, quantum computing and sustainability, amongst many others.
The aim is to showcase the region’s scientific diversity and potential, with talks by researchers from leading centres in the area, notably the CFM.
