In the early September or 2012, San Sebastian hosted nfo-12 – the 20th anniversary International Conference on Near-field Optics, Nanophotonics and Related Techniques.
Chaired by Rainer Hillenbrand and Javier Aizpurua and hosted by the Basque and Spanish research institutions, nfo-12 brought together over 300 researchers from all around the world to present their research and share their 
opinions on the prospects of the field.
