A single-center expansion of the molecular potential
is sufficient to reproduce all the features
of the electron scattering by diatomic molecules
Electron scattering by aligned molecules shows a rich
angular structure. The full molecular potential is necessary
to reproduce the angular pattern
(spherical potentials are not enough at low energies).
The theoretical description of the intramolecular scattering
of low-energy electrons (as the ones measured in photoemission from
molecular core levels) requires a more sophisticated description
than the standard multiple scattering theory in spherical potentials.
