Biography
Ion Errea Lope is Vice Director of the Materials Physics Center (CFM) in Donostia-San Sebastián and Associate Professor of Applied Physics at the University of the Basque Country (EHU). His research focuses on the quantum theory of materials, particularly the study of vibrational properties, lattice dynamics and superconductivity.
He obtained his degree in Physics from the University of the Basque Country in 2007 and completed his Ph.D. at the same university in 2011. He subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, working with Francesco Mauri and Matteo Calandra, before returning to Donostia-San Sebastián as a postdoctoral researcher at the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC).
His scientific work focuses on the development of advanced first-principles methods to investigate complex properties of solids and nanostructures. He has led research on hydrogen-based superconductors, including the ERC-funded SuperH project, exploring the mechanisms underlying superconductivity in hydrogen-rich materials. Alongside his research and teaching activities, he contributes to the scientific direction and institutional management of the Materials Physics Center.
