Summary
In this thesis, the candidate investigates the effect of atomic steps with different geometry/coordination on the CO oxidation in the mbar range of pressures.
The work has been carried out using curved Rh and Pt crystals, which allow to study different christallographic surfaces using the very same single samples. Using Planar Laser-Induced Fluorescence (PLIF), the candidate explores the (naively different) CO ignition across Pt and Rh stepped surfaces, and with Near Ambient-Pressure X-ray Photoemission Spectroscopy (NAP-XPS) the chemical species involved in such ignition at the different facets are studied.
